En apenas una semana desde que llegaron a Huaraz (Capital de la Cordillera Blanca, a 3.000 metros de altitud), los hermanos Pou -Iker y Eneko- dan por finalizada su aclimatación tras lograr las cumbres del Yanapaccha, de 5.460 metros de altitud, y del Shacsha, de 5,700. En un comunicado, los Pou subrayan que «nos hemos sentido muy bien y muy fuertes. Alcanzamos la primera tres días después de finalizar nuestras vacaciones en la playa, eso quiere decir que del nivel del mar habíamos pasado primero a los tres mil metros de la capital de Ancash, para una jornada después superar ampliamente los cinco mil metros. Y todo ello sin sentir los típicos síntomas del mal de altura: dolor de cabeza, vómitos, mareos, sensación de flojera, etc. En ese momento nos dimos cuenta que los casi dos meses que habíamos pasado en el Himalaya sesenta días antes todavía se notaban”.
Afrontan esta primera aventura con su cámara peruano Alex Estrada y su amiga francesa Alma Roblin, con los que dos días después repiten en el Shacsha: ”Cuando un equipo funciona es mejor no cambiarlo, por eso volvemos con ellos dos. Volvimos a escalar rápido y eso que esta ascensión era mucho más técnica y difícil que la anterior”.
